Among all homes with security systems, dealer-installed security comprises the vast majority. The DIY segment is very small and will continue to be so for the immediate future.

The dealer-installed category represent 18.1 percent in 2005 and will grow to 23 percent by 2009 and 27 percent by 2012. In 2005, dealer-installed systems account for 80.4 percent of total installed security systems. This percentage will drop to 79.6 percent by 2009 and 78.7 percent by 2012.

DIY security will grow from 4.4 percent in 2005 to 5.9 percent in 2009 and 7.4 percent in 2012. In 2005, DIY systems represent 19.6 percent of total installed security systems. This percentage will increase to 20.4 percent by 2009 and 21.3 percent by 2012.
